If there's one thing we like to do here at the Lebowski Podcast World HQ, it's support good causes.  Today I saw Josh Cooley is selling a Fight Club print to help out a family friend recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer.  This is our concern, dudes.

Cooley is an amazing artist and is the dude who created the podcast logo.  Yes, that one.  He also illustrates scenes from films and does a fine job at it.  Here's a preview of his Fight Club illustration.

So break the first two rules of Fight Club and spill the beans.  We need to help this dude out cause cancer sucks.

Celebrity bowler contest E-mail

Once again, GoBowling.com is having a celebrity bowler contest.  We covered this last year and thought the contest would really be between Jeff Bridges (The Dude in The Big Lebowski) and Bill Murray (Ernie McCracken in KingPin).  Unfortunately that little brat teen pop-star, Justin Bieber, won.  I don't even know why I have something against the kid, other than all the Dude wanted was his bowling title back.  So this year we have a chance to make things right.  Please go vote for 'ol Duder at their website.  And remember, this is Chicago-politics so vote early and vote often.

Kentucky Rushmore E-mail

I should probably start off by saying we had an amazing time at Lebowski Fest, but more updates on that later.  For now, I need to tell you about Kentucky Rushmore.

I first heard about this new monument via Facebook, the mother of all social networks.  I didn't really know what it was about, yet saw many of my Lebowski friends liking it or talking about it.  When we arrived in Louisville last week I ran into Will Russell, one of the Lebowski Fest founders, and I asked him about it.  Will is trying to create a road side attraction for Kentucky.  When I hear the term "road side attraction" I immediately think of that bit Kevin Smith did for Jay Leno a few years ago.  I can't say I've visited many across the nation personally, but I've always been interested in stopping by some of them.

Will wants to create a Rushmore with famous Kentucky natives.  His idea is to have Abraham Lincoln, Muhammed Ali, Colonel Sanders, and Secretariat (the Kentucky Derby winner) on the side of a fake mountain.  Now if that's not exciting to you, keep in mind the awesomeness doesn't stop there.  This is set to be built in Cave City, KY - home of many other road side attractions as well as Mammoth Cave National Park.  It sounds like fun for the whole family to me.

Keep your eyes peeled for new info on this.  I can't wait to visit some day.

Dudes, I talked to a guy at Wick's tonight and they're having a Lebowski costume contest.  Street Moda is giving away $50 of merchandise to the person who submits the best photo of their Lebowski costume.  Yes, this means you can participate even though you aren't at Lebowski Fest!

Just go to their Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/streetmodafootwear) and click Fashionable Big Lebowski Contest on the left.  Brandt will fill you in on the details.

Lebowski Fest starts.... E-mail

Lebowski Fest doesn't officially start until Friday, but I'm already in town.  Why?  I'm here a little early for some U of Louisville collaboration (it's a work thing) and to enjoy the city.  There's really a plethora of awesome things to see and do here.  I'm looking forward to getting over to Dizzy Whizz for some burgers, as well as trying out some new places.

If you're in town early too, there is plenty to do.  Check out Bardstown road, go to the zoo, ride some roller coasters, check out some restaurants, or go get some late night pizza at Spinelli's.  If you are planning on doing a few extra things while you're here, definitely try to plan your days.  It's too easy to let the weekend fly by and then it's time to go home.

The latest episode, 53 - A Real Little Lebowski Urban Achiever, is an interview with Hayley Rafner.  Her father, Jeff Rafner, was a set director on The Big Lebowski.  I interviewed Hayley because she's one of the kids in the urban achiever photo displayed on Lebowski's trophy wall.  Are you surprised they took an actual photo?  I was.  It impressed me even further that some of the crew's children got in on the fun.

Hayley was great to talk with and definitely has her head on straight.  It turns out her family has a long history in Hollywood, just like Jeff Bridges.  She's not really interested in jumping into the "industry" right now, but still has some great stories about being on set with her dad from time to time.  I discovered her story through an article she wrote for the San Diego Reader.  I'm looking forward to reading more articles from her.

10th Annual Lebowski Fest next week E-mail

The 10th annual Lebowski Fest kicks off next Friday.  Are you going?  We'll be there and are hosting a meetup again.  It'll kick off at 3pm on Saturday the 16th.  We'll have raffle prizes, and by raffle I mean you get one free entry.  We'll have one of the new Lebowski Podcast t-shirts, a Sioux City Sarsaparilla bottle opener, and a DVD set of Branded.  On top of that you'll get to meet some fellow achievers from around the world.

We have more information on the meetup here - https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=213923608645462

If you need more information on the Fest, go here - http://lebowskifest.com

Jim Hoosier, aka Liam, will be making another appearance at the Fest.  Scott and Will also have a great line-up of bands as usual.  If you haven't been to a fest before, here's a rundown of what happens.

Friday - Film night
On Friday they show The Big Lebowski on the Executive Strike and Spare lawn.  You'll see some people dressed in costume, but most people save dressing up for Saturday.  They'll have fair-style food carts available to get some food and beverages.  You'll also have a chance to mingle with everyone. The Lebowski Fest merch table will be available if you need a t-shirt of what have you.

Tips: Save your costume, or best costume, for Saturday.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket if you want to sit down while watching the movie.  You might need some bug spray if the mosquitoes are out.

Saturday - Lebowski Podcast Meetup, Garden Party and Bowling Party
I mentioned the Podcast meetup above.  The Garden Party starts at 4pm, so it's a perfect chance to show up a little early, meet some people and hang out in the air conditioned bowling alley.

The Garden Party is where you can experience the bands, enjoy the carnival-style games, hang out with your friends, and get some sun.  The Lebowski Fest merch table will be available again

The Bowling Party is where you can bowl, try the trivia contest, dress up for the costume contests, and have a great time.  This is where most of the action takes place.  You'll see some ringers for all your favorite characters, some group costumes, and some very unique and creative costumes.  The more studious achievers will be battling for the title of trivia champion, and there's plenty of music and excitement for everyone in attendance.

Tips: Be sure to come to the meetup as you'll have a chance to win one of our raffle prizes.  The Garden Party will probably be sunny and hot, so be sure to apply some sunscreen if you're prone to burning.  While everyone loves to party in the bowling alley, try not to get too out of hand.  The cops have been called more than once to remove drunk and abusive achievers over the years.  You definitely don't want to be one of those who winds up in country lock up.

General Tips: Keep tabs on your camera, cell phone and what have you.  Every year people lose their valuables and rarely find them.  On the flip side, if you find some lost items, please turn them in to the front desk at the bowling alley, hotel, or where you are. You should also check out the great city of Louisville while you're there.  Bardstown Road is an amazing shopping district/neighborhood full of great restaurants and independent shops/stores.  The Dude and I will be in search of the best burger in town and will report back what we find.  Let us know if we forgot any tips or information.

Exclusive interview with Bill Green E-mail

Last night I posted two new episodes, the first of them being Lebowski Art Part 2.  In this episode we have an exclusive interview with Bill Green - the guy who does all the artwork for Lebowski Fest.  One of the reasons we wanted to highlight Bill in an episode about Lebowski Art is because we don't think he's as famous as he should be.  He's also willing to entertain offers for work.  Yes, that means you could commission this dude to create something for you.

Please check out the episode and check out what Bill does.  If you're interested in Lebowski art to any degree, you can't help but appreciate the effort and detail that go into everything Bill creates.

If you haven't been to http://teefury.com yet, please visit and re-visit often.  These guys sell a different t-shirt every day for the low, low price of $10, bones, clams, or in some places they're even called a "hamilton."  Every once in a while a Lebowski-themed design crops up and today is another good one.

This is just an image of the design, if you click on it you'll be taken to the website to purchase one.  If you're interested, you must do it today because tomorrow they'll be gone.

The Giver coming to film E-mail

Jeff Bridges has been interested in turning the popular young adult novel, The Giver, into a film for some time now.  He originally thought this would be a great role for his late father to play, but is thinking of playing the role himself now.  I remember reading this book way back in the day would love to see a film adaptation.
