Seventh Son pushed back E-mail

Jeff Bridges' next film, in which he co-stars with Juilianne Moore, has been pushed from Feb 2013 to Oct 2013.  This is a bummer, man.  I had been looking forward to seeing The Dude and Maude together on screen again.  If you haven't heard of Seventh Son, here's a synopsis of the film:

In a time long past, an evil is about to be unleashed that will reignite the war between the forces of the supernatural and humankind once more. Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) is a knight who had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), centuries ago. But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers of every incarnation, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory.

In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return. Now he has only until the next full moon to do what usually takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Man’s only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.

Personally, every time I've heard this film referenced all I can think of is Iron Maiden's album Seventh Son  of a Seventh Son.

Dudes of Food E-mail

When I think of my time in college, I never really occupied various administration buildings but I did spend a fair amount looking for cheap snacks and good diners.  Yeah I had that meal plan, but I rarely seemed to be hungry when the cafeteria was open.  One of the hazards of your peak awake time being between noon and 3am.  The "Dudes of Food" have a blog based on full stomachs and full wallets.  Everyone loves finding awesome food that is modestly priced.  At Brown's campus in Providence, Rhode Island there are many neighborhoods in the surrounding area where students can find some amazingly good eats without breaking the bank.  As a bonus, there is also the chance to explore other cultures and get to know some of your neighbors.  I don't know about you, but this sounds quite dudely to me.

Hoodie Shop E-mail

Questlove has recently opened a hoodie store in New York City's lower east side.  While some are probably assuming this has something to do with the recently tragic death of Trayvon Martin, they would be wrong.  This store idea has been in the works for Questlove and Peter Shapiro for over a year.  This is truly a case of separate incidents.

Being a huge fan of hooded sweatshirts myself, and also knowing The Dude wore them, brings some significance to this article.  I must admit I have a closet full for all occasions -  I even have a hoodie I wear mostly at work.  I'd like to know exactly what the Hoodie Shop is selling and for how many bones, clams or what have you.  Their web site is currently more of an advertisement with contact info.  It's too bad I don't actually live nearby.

Medora - documentary film E-mail

Medora is a small town in the state of Indiana with one of the smallest student bodies in the state at the local high school.  Famous actors Steve Buscemi (Theodore Donald "Donny" Kerabotsos) and Stanley Tucci have teamed up to co-executive producing a documentary film about the school's high school basketball team as they struggle to compete against many schools 10x or more larger.

This is another modern day David vs Goliath story or perhaps a more moder day version of Hoosiers.  The film has been shot and you can view footage here.  Right now they are trying to raise money to complete the film.  I hear if you donate $50 they'll put your name in the credits.  Thanks for bringing this to our attention, TLoft.

The MN Twins dig The Dude E-mail

A fellow Achiever just brought this commercial to light.  The Minnesota Twins have a Lebowski-themed commercial.  It's not 100% accurate, combines a few references into one...but if there's one thing I learned from DaFino it's that there's not much to really complain about in life.

Lebowski Bash Australia E-mail

Either here or on our Facebook Page we've mentioned the first ever Lebowski Bash Australia.  It occurred over the weekend, and I see from the internet that it was a big success.  I know The Dude has fans in every country around the globe, but I was especially interested in this event because of a fellow achiever I met in Chicago at the first Lebowski Fest in that fair city back in 2008.  He went by the name Aussie Achiever, and he really knew how to party.

Aussie Achiever kind of planned giant vacations around Lebowski Fest.  I'm planning on taking a week off this summer, but Aussie would take off weeks to go skiing somewhere, and then swing around for a Lebowski Fest at the appropriate time.  I can't say I knew the Dude very well.  I didn't talk with him much in Chicago, but we did converse from time to time at the L-Fest forum.  I must say it was saddening and shocking to learn he had died in a boating accident last year.  His sister knew Aussie Achiever was obsessed with The Big Lebowski and the Fest so she posted a note one day informing us why her brother had been absent for a while.

So it comes with great joy and admiration to learn 600 fans and achievers bought tickets for the film screening in the land down  under.  Aussie Achiever was right - they DO love The Dude down there.  I just hope they keep the spirit going.  I'd like to think this is in honor of not just ol Duder, but Aussie Achiever as well.

EDIT: We got a reply from Ronnie "Treehorn" Tucker, organizer of the event.  It's good to know ol Aussie Achiever is being remembered.  You can follow the Lebowski Bash Australia conversation on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/lebowskibash

Dear Chalupa...

I'm Ronnie 'Treehorn' Tucker (aka Dudeism's Arch-Bishop of Australia), and I'm the 'Founding Dude' and organizer of Lebowski Bash Australia.

I've been so very fortunate to get to know 'Aussie Achiever's' family and consider them friends. His loss was a tragedy and it's obvious how sorely missed he is to all who knew him here -- and clearly the world over; from Newfoundland to Pismo, down to Cooma, Australia.

He died--he died as so many of his
generation, before his time. In your
wisdom you took him, Lord. As you
took so many bright flowering young
men, at Khe San and Lan Doc and Hill
364. These young men gave their lives.
And 'Aussie Achiever' too. 'Aussie Achiever'. . .
who loved Lebowski.

Jim's spirit is strong however with 'The Dudes' fans Down Under -- and in some very important ways he's still been, and will be, very much a part of our all of our official fan celebrations.

'Aussie Achiever' had a considerable collection of Lebowski Memorablia; Lebowski Fest Posters, Bobble Heads, Dude Stickers, Special Edition DVD's, Dozens of T-Shirts, Books, Art, and even... an original fully cast signed 1998 first edition movie poster - Both Coen Brothers own John Hancock's on there as well.

Lebowski Bash Australia is deeply honoured to be now in possession of this considerable collection, and was extremely proud to display many of the pieces at our First Annual Lebowski Bash Australia. The fans we're genuinely thrilled and delighted to check-out and see so much much of 'Aussie Achievers' various What-Have-You. -- It really tied the event together. . .

On a personal note, I'd like to say that through-out this incredible journey over the last several months of brining Lebowski Bash to life in Australia, there is little doubt in my mind that 'Aussie Achievers' presence was felt by on a number of occasions... truly. Through the ups and down, strikes and gutters - and even helping keep the god damed plane from crashing into the mountain, on more that one occasion!

And so 'Aussie Achiever', in accordance with what we know to be a great honour for us all... the new Official Home, Movement, Event and Lebowski Fan Base thanks you -- the "Little, Aussie Achievers".

Take 'er easy, there 'Aussie Achiever'. . .
You're a good man. And Thurah.

Follow Up: Reitman's Reading E-mail

We recently reported Jason Reitman was having a reading of The Big Lebowski.  Turns out it was a big success with Sam Elliott even reprising his role as The Stranger!  Other guest readers included Christina Hendricks, Jason Alexander, Rainn Wilson, Fred Savage, Seth Rogen, Hank Azaria, Nick Kroll and Catherine Reitman.  I would love to have been there, or at least have a recording of the event.

Jeff Bridges in The Giver E-mail

A while back we were hearing rumors about Jeff Bridges playing "The Giver" from the same-titled 1993 young adult/children's classic.  I remember reading it back in the day, a few years after our first conflict with Saddam and the Iraqis.  Sometimes you don't know if rumors or true or not, but it appears this one is more truth than fiction.

Bowling - kids could be doing worse things E-mail

As a follow up to presidential cadidate Rick Santorum, here's an article on Pete Weber and the contemporary history of bowling.  It's something that has persisted in many cultures for years and there are definitely worse things our children could be doing.  Since the resurgance of the professional sport a few years ago, hot heads like Weber are probably making a few more appearances in pop culture.  Even at his worst, I'd rather Chuck be watching Pete than WWE, VH1 reality shows, or being bullied by some kids at school.

Santorum on Bowling E-mail

It's that time of year again.  People have raised their hands to be President of the United States of America and now they must roll a few rocks in order to look like they can rub elbows with us common folk.  In a recent bowling outing, Rick Santorum made sure a young dude DID NOT use a pink bowling ball.  Why?  Because that's gay.  Now I'm not giving a direct quote here, I'm just paraphrasing what was really going on.  I don't think I want to vote someone into office who can't handle bowling with certain colors.  Does it really matter?  Seriously?  We're supposed to be above this.

Big thanks to Glenetta for bringing this to our attention.  This aggression will not stand.
