Donny was a good bowler E-mail

We recently heard from Adam in Forida about his new surf board.  He named it Donny.

It's a pretty fitting name, am i wrong?  In the eulogy Walter gives we learn Donny was not only a good bowler, but someone who loved the outdoors.  Donny surfed all the beaches of Southern California from La Jolla, to Leo Carillo, and up to Pismo.  I can't think of a better name for a surf board.  We salute you, Adam from Florida.

Exploring Capitalism Through the Lens of the Big Lebowski: Part I, Man

It comes from DeathAndTaxesMag.com.  It's a bit long, but interesting.  I wonder how long until part 2 appears...

It has recently come to my attention that T. Rex, the British glam rock band from the 70s, will be performing at Dudestock 2011.  Now I really wish I was attending.

If you need constant updates you should probably befriend Dudestock on Facebook.  Just search for "Dudestock 2011."

In true Dude-form I'm late in getting this information out to you all.  Fortunately I'm not so late that you've missed the boat.

This year the Indianapolis International Film Festival is showing The Big Lebowski at Jillians on South Meridian in Indianapolis.  Show time is at 7:30pm and the doors open at 6:00pm.  Tickets appear to be $5.00, clams, or what have you.  Oh, and dude?  Tomorrow's already the 20th.

If you really want to get your "Lebowski" on, they are offering a premium package for $75.  You'll get a reserved bowling lane for 6 people and this includes admission, show rental, and one game of bowling.  If you're a little short on cash, just ask Jeffrey Lebowski - Bunny said he's good for it.

Tara Reid talks Big Lebowski 2 E-mail

In an earlier post, Lebowski 2, we showed you the Funny or Die clip where Tara Reid played every character in "Big Lebowski 2."  Here's an article where Tara talks about the video and why she did it.  I'll be the first to admit I've made fun of Miss Reid in the past.  It's easy to poke fun at celebrities from a distance with no recourse.  I must also admit I have a lot of respect for her to turn this whole situation around and have a laugh.  This has to be one of the top five funniest spin off videos I've ever seen about The Big Lebowski.  Check it out.

Flower power had its Woodstock.  Achievers and Dudeists now have Dudestock.

A FAMILY-FRIENDLY music festival is being held in York to raise money for the city’s Special Care Baby Unit.

Dudestock 2011 will be held in Bustardthorpe Field at the Knavesmire on June 18, and around 3,000 tickets are on sale for the day-long music event.

The money raised will help buy equipment including incubators, breast pumps and even toys for the York Hospital unit for premature and unwell newborn babies.

This summer you'll have the chance to attend this great fundraiser in York, England.  I live in the US, so I don't think I'll make it.  Maybe the Irish Monk will check it out and report back to us?

If there's one thing I can be proud of, it's all the great fundraiser with a Big Lebowski theme.  There are multiple events being held every year to battle cancer and raise funds for individuals with all kinds of serious physical ailments.  Keep on keeping on dudes.

Buy the actual Dude sweater E-mail

So we're always talking about dude sweaters...the cowichan-style, vintage Pendleton sweaters that look what old Duder wore.  Well, every once in a while props and what have you are sold at auction for various reasons.  Coming soon you will have an opportunity to purchase the original Dude Sweater.

Adam Bertocci, our esteemed colleague and fellow achiever, has done a little brother seamus work and sent us the above link.  According to his leads, they've estimated it will sell for at least $4,000 to $6,000.  I have two reactions to that sort of news:

  1. Only $6,000?  Come on, man!  This is like, uh, uh, uh, piece of Hollywood history, uh, you know?
  2. $6,000?  If only I had the necessary means for the necessary means to purchase this article of clothing.

So what do you guys think?  Will a true achiever purchse this wonderful piece of memorabilia?  Or will it go to some Jackie Treehorn collector or a goldbricker with too much cash to spend?

When having your rug pissed on becomes too real E-mail

The image of Treehorn's thugs pissing on The Dude's rug is one of those scenes everyone remembers from The Big Lebowski.  I've heard stories about people pissing on a rug for fun or as a joke, and the phrase is often used successfully as a metaphor.  Rarely do you hear about someone literally getting their rug pissed on though...

Rug note

What do you do if your friend pees on your rug?  Do you send some thugs over with marmots and cricket bats?

We know some of you are HUGE Steve Buscemi fans out there so I couldn't resist posting this.  There's a Tumblr site with images of women who have had Donny-eyes photoshopped on.  I think one of my favorites would have to be Scarlett Johansson.

Scarlett Johansson

You can find the site at - http://chickswithstevebuscemeyes.tumblr.com/.  Some of them are funny and others look creepy or zombie-ish.  Which ones do you like?

A real Little Lebowski Urban Achiever E-mail
Written by Chalupa

I often see sports teams and what have you named "The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers," and many times I have seen fellow achievers come dressed as one to a Lebowski Fest or Lebowski-themed event.  How many can say they really were an achiever?  I now know one person who can and her name is Hayley Rafner.

Thanks to the powers of Google I came across an artice in the San Diego Reader this week written by Hayley.  She was writing about some experiences she's had growing up due to the fact her family works in the film industry.  One of those experiences was being part of the picture that became the "Little Lebowski Urban Achievers."  You know - "inner-city children of promise but without the necessary means for a necessary means, for a higher education."  The more I think about it, the more this sounds like that episode of The Office where we find out Michael Scott promised a whole class of local school children he would pay their way through college.  Did Mr. Lebowski send them all?  I forgot to ask Hayley, but I have a feeling something would have come up...unless this was being funded through the foundation.  We all know the wealth was "mother's" and Jeffrey Lebowski lived on an allowance, which was ample.

Anyway, it was really cool to find someone like this on the internet.  There is so much that goes into the making of a film behind the scenes we never learn or hear about.  We all see and read about the actors, directors, producers, and writers - but what about the electricians, gaffers, set directors, costume designers, sound guys, editors, kraft services, and everyone else?  We're not dealing with morons here.

Hayley graciously gave up some of her time on a Friday evening to chat with the royal we on the phone.  We'll post the audio in a few weeks or so.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
