Next month Jeff Bridges will be hosting the American Thunder Music festival to celebrate the men and women of the US Armed Forces. John Fogerty will be attending with his band to play at the festival and help raise funds for programs designed to support our troops. It'd be really cool if Bridges and Fogerty played some Creedence, but I wouldn't hold your breath...for that or the tape deck.
This past year and a half has been a rough one for the Lebowski Podcast, mostly because Chalupa's lungs don't work right. We've fallen behind time and again on posting episodes in a timely order. We like to think we're just working on Dude-time, but we do understand your need for more thoughts on the best movie in the world. So who's ready for some more episodes? Chalupa has been officially released from the iron lung for now and we have some great interviews to post.
I think I've mentioned an annual art show out in L.A. that focuses mainly on pop culture a few times on the podcast. I can never remember the name, but I just discovered they made a book of the artwork and you can pick it up at Amazon.
There's a forward from Kevin Smith, yes that Kevin Smith of Clerks fame, and I believe the book encompasses the past four years of art shows. The fifth is scheduled for early next month in July. Here's the link where I heard about the book. There's a decent interview with the book's creator/author if you're interested as well as a few examples of the art.
I think Spock would say, "This is highly illogical." Leonard Nemoy recently did a music video for "The Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars. See what you think. There are some very Dude-like references here, and then a few un-Dude things.
For those of you on Facebook, you should go check out the new and official Jeff Bridges page. It was co-created by his webmaster and someone else. There are many other Jeff Bridges fan pages and groups on Facebook, but this is the one that will be posting official stuff.
There's an article at http://blu-ray.com detailing news of The Big Lebowski being released on the highest of digital formats later this summer. August 16, 2011 to be exact. Just in time for my birthday. Yes, that was a hint.
The real question here is what. What will be on this release of the film that is different from every other release? We all know there has been a serious lack of special content and deleted scenes on previous releases. While most of us lament the lack of these little extras, I know it helps to keep the experience pure and unadulterated. The images below shows a book of sorts. I'm sure it's an interesting read, but I can't imagine learning something not already revealed somewhere else on the internet. At the same time I'll probably end up purchasing it just because. No listing on Amazon yet, but time will tell on this one.
In-N-Out, besides being in The Big Lebowski, is an amazing burger joint. Donny had it right, "...that's a good burger, Walter." Unfortunately they haven't turned themselves into one of the many other massive food chains in the country. Their business model, while successful, has kept them to one corner of the country. With the recent expansion of Five Guys, they've had to do something and that something is expanding to Texas.
Here's a video of one California native enjoying a burger at her favorite restaurant. I probably wouldn't cry, but I would be overly ecstatic if an In-N-Out came to my town.
We finally did it. We recorded that commentary track.
Back in 2007 I realized I could not find a full length commentary track anywhere for The Big Lebowski. The Coen Brothers are not big into DVD extras and special features which includes those commentary tracks with people like the directors, editors, crew, cinematographer, etc. My next step was to look around on the internets to see if I could find one - still no luck. So we went ahead and created it for you.
Joining us on the track are Larry and Mike. You might recognize their voices if you've been a long time listener of the podcast. Larry is a local film critic and Mike has a film podcast of his own called Filmjitsu. We did this all in one take with zero edits, other than to chop a little off the beginning and end. This is made with the idea you will either synchronize this track with the DVD, or mute your TV while listening. You can find the track in a few ways:
I think this is a great idea with one major flaw. This isn't a "Dude Sweater." If they really wanted to sell thousands of these things, they should have brought back the original design for a second run. Right now hundreds of Lebowski fans are trying to buy vintage sweaters that are old, stained, shrunken, ill-kept, hole riddled and often just not the real thing. If Pendleton were to start producing the same, old design again they'd sell like hot cakes within the deadbeat community. I mean that in the nicest way because right now the square community are the only ones who will purchase them.
I don't think I've ever done this before, but it is with great sadness that I announce Aussie Achiever is dead. I met the guy at the first Lebowski Fest in Chicago back in 2008. He was a bit wild and rambunctious, but he was full of life and very Dude-like in his own way. He just happened to be on vacation, or holiday as they call it, traveling across the U.S. Aussie Achiever was skiing here and there and figured he'd come to Lebowski Fest because he loved The Big Lebowski and the Coen Brothers so much.
His sister posted this on the Lebowski Fest Forum...
Hi everyone, this is Aussie Achiever's sister here (and the dog did piss on my rug!) Found this site when I went onto his computer. It is my sad duty to tell you all that my gorgeous, clever, bighearted brother had a tragic accident and has drowned. He was at his favourite beach paddling his wave ski off shore and it capsized. He couldn't free himself and that was that. Some folks on the beach performed CPR for half an hour until the paramedics arrived but all to no avail. We, his family and friends, miss him terribly, he was a special, wonderful person. Turned on a lot of people - including me- to the Coen Bros and I am so glad he did! Think good thoughts and I know he is in a good place.
You can find this about 8 posts down on that page. I couldn't figure out how to get a direct link. If you're wondering what the reference to the rug is, earlier her brother was recounting the dog peeing on her rug. I'm sure it tied the room together.
I hope his family is ok. I hope Walter LaFester is taking this ok. I'm really bummed now and I'm supposed to get some sleep for work tomorrow. We'll see how this pans out.
