Jon Lancaster is a natural Walter with two trophies under his vest and our 5th panelist. While Jon may seem like any other nice guy you'd meet at a fest, you never know when he may pull a piece out on the lanes. Oh, and try not to bring up Viet Nam around him.
The Sobchak Simulator − or - How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Rules I had the fortunate luck to see The Big Lebowski in its original theatrical run in 1998 whilst living in Michigan, where I attended high school, and then college at Western Michigan University. After a move to the New York City area, I have found myself settled in Chattanooga, TN. I'm not certain who in my life tipped me off to the fact that my skull and size was nearly identical to Mr. Goodman's, but I'm glad they did. I've been a huge fan of the film for years and years, and had actually costumed as Walter Sobchak when I attended Dragon*Con in Atlanta (THE mecca for fan-based costuming) for a number of years. I always got a great reaction – Lebowski is known far and wide by people of all backgrounds. And truly, that's why I love it so much. After attending Dragon*Con, I strove to make my costume as screen accurate as possible, adding such touches as custom dog tags, real prescription shooting glasses, and a new vest over the years. Of course, it seems to be the shape of my head that helps tie the room together, as it were, and I just had to work on my facial expression and pose for the actual Lebowski Fest. It's still funny and odd having strangers ask me to threaten them with a pistol. I attended my first Lebowski Fest with my special lady friend Meghan in 2010 at the 9th Annual LF in Louisville. I entered the costume contest that evening, and did ok, but alas, no trophy. Since that night, we've attended the 10th Annual LF, the NYC LF with the cast reunion (where I took second in the Walter contest), and the 1st Annual LF in Atlanta this past April, where I finally took home my first 1st Place Trophy for Best Walter. I love Lebowski, and more than that, I love the people that loving Lebowski has put into my life. The fans of this film are such a creative, interesting, and disparate bunch that I'm truly fortunate to have gotten to know them. Meghan and I have made some wonderful friends in a short time, and that can be attributed to LF. And I guess I'm fortunate that my skull is similar to John Goodman's.
